Virtual server packages from Webarchitects, running on hardware in Sheffield or Iceland.
Our virtual server hosting packages have been designed with a range of uses in mind. The smaller ones are suitable for websites with high traffic that require their own allocated resources; they are just as useful in hosting email servers etc. At the other end of the spectrum, we offer virtual servers that can run massive high traffic sites or hundreds of small websites — designed for development agencies and large organisations.
We can provide virtual servers on hardware we own and maintain in Sheffield or on the hardware of one of our partners, 1984.is in Iceland. The differences between the sevices are shown in the table below.
|Backups||60 days worth of snapshots||None (available as an extra)|
|Electricity||Good Energy||Hydro & Geothermal|
|Console||SSH to Xen console||VNC via websockets|
|CPUs||AMD, cores provided as needed / required||Xeon, 4 cores with 1GB RAM, 8 cores with 5GB RAM and 10 cores with 10GB of RAM|
Our Sheffield based Virtual Servers use disk images which are network mounted from a ZFS fileserver which is setup to save a snapshot of the complete virtual server every day and we keep 60 days worth of these backups. These snapshots are not directly available to clients but they can be accessed and data can be retrived by Webarchitects sysadmins with the time spent being invoiced at our usual support rate.
We generally use the Debian GNU/Linux distribution, but we are happy to install and maintain which ever distribution is required, we have a lot of experience with Ubuntu and CentOS. We can also provide servers running OpenBSD or FreeBSD if required.
